Fire Storm

Fire Storm

Another title might be "View From Inferno's Ovelook. I started this project by passing sun light through various glass objects in our kitchen and capturing the projected image. In this example, the purple background is construction paper. The object the sun light is passing through is a bottle of Disaronno which is square sided, not curved, and has an interesting texture. The bottle is tilted slightly to cast the image. I have flipped the photo upsidedown giving the effect of red embers floating above the horizon.

This is just what I need today. Happy it's Friday!!

This is a quick snap of our Fiddle Leaf Fig. It's quite a healthy specimen despite our best effort to "do it in". Mom gave us the cutting 15 years ago from the mother plant at 2401 Harvard Rd, Lawrence Kansas. I think the original cutting came from Jack & Elaine Oruch. It would be interesting to know if this can be planted outside here in Atlanta.
  • Fluorescent Gas Giant<br />
<br />
This might be a scene from 20XX.... as viewed from a craft orbiting a gas giant light years away. Or, it might simply be a soap bubble on our kitchen counter.

Lots of activity today at the feeder. It's finally cold here this year. Today I had to keep reminding myself that it's only February. Strong winds too. The birds must know something we don't.

These Herons or Cranes were circling our neighborhood most of the afternoon. Not sure what was going on but they looked like they were migrating. I was sure these were Great Blue Herons when I took the photo. Since then, I've gotten closer shots and they look more like Sand Hill Cranes. <br />

With FlightAware software on my iPhone, I figure that the aircraft was Aeromexico Aerovias Flight AMX6 From Paris to Mexico City... just under a 12-hour direct flight. They say it's a 767-200 which has a wing span of 156'. The Blue Heron or Sand Hill Crane span is about 6'. Using the lens focal length (250mm), I estimate that the 767 altitude is about 45,000' and the birds are at 3,000'.

This is shot taken from the car just outside our neighborhood. During the 1 second exposure, the lens is zoomed from 24m to 70mm. The red and yellow pattern to the left is actually a traffic signal changing color. The street is wet from rain.
