Twisted

The camera is on a tripod and the shutter tripped with a cable release. Behind, I am holding two pieces of cardstock taped together in the middle: one green, the other blue. In the other hand I'm holding a small flashlight which is used to cast light and shadow into the scene. The shutter is open for 15 seconds allowing the cardstock and flashlight to be slowly moved creating the effect. This is a single exposure with limited post processing in Lightroom.

Its simplicity belies my struggle to capture the effect. I had originally imagined somthing completely different. But I'll go with this one for today.

This evening was Margaret's first prom. So, Amy and I took comfort together at Slate Table & Tap in downtown Roswell.
I will add that the photo is rotated 180deg. It was easier for me, while simultaneously holding the camera and glass, to have the light opposite me casting a shadow towards me. In the posted photo, it is reversed.
Ellen's sketching skills improve. It was fun to see how she was doing the shading... smudging with her thumb and so forth. I don't think anyone has taught her. She tells me she just doodles and was recently pleased that she figured out 'noses'. While waiting for dinner tonight, she sketched this for us on the paper they had down on the table top.

Thinking the Lilacs might be good subjects this evening, I went out to the backyard to find a few. To my surprise, they're almost all gone. The only ones left with blooms were inside on the kitchen counter in some water. And the blooms on these are falling. So tonight we'll only shoot the shadows. The background is a piece of shiney green card-stock material.

This is our 17 year old African Violet! It's as old as our daughter, Margaret, and was given as a gift welcoming her into the world. A few years ago we almost lost it. Someone moved it from the north side of the house to the south. There, it lost most of its leaves. Those that were left were completely wilted. As a last resort, I moved it back to the north foyer where remarkably sprung back to life. Amazing...

This is the second exposure of three. Paint is poured into a water filled round bottom glass. The flash is off-camera and extremely close. The image is split-toned and inverted 180 degrees. The curvature at the top of the frame is the bottom of the glass.
