This is common advice for divers or pilots of ditched aircraft who become disortiented under water. Can you imagine how frightening that would be? In this case 'up' is not 'up'. It's to the right.

I was attempting to capture water being poured. The position of the flash was critical and I was not entirely satisfied. Next time, I'll use an off-camera flash cable for a bit more flexibility.

  • Round Tree<br /> <br /> I could not resist taking a picture of this one. Someone has trimmed it into an almost perfect sphere. It's interesting that it came out a little unsharp. Didn't have a tripod. So, I set the camera up on a brick wall and used the shutter release timer and mirror uplock. Hmmm....

Mom gave us the cutting 15 years ago from the mother plant at 2401 Harvard Rd, Lawrence Kansas. I think the original cutting came from Jack & Elaine Oruch. It would be interesting to know if this can be planted outside here in Atlanta.

  • Sandhill Crane Migration Flight<br /> <br /> Photographed over our afternoon Lacrosse game in Roswell (GA), these are almost certainly Sandhill Cranes, subspecies type 'pratensis' that live in Georgia and Florida. The Sandhill crane has one of the longest fossil histories of any extant bird. A 10 million year old fossilized example of this bird was found in Nebraska. The flash is off-camera and extremely close. The image is split-toned and inverted 180 degrees. The curvature at the top of the frame is the bottom of the glass.
  • African Violet<br /> <br /> This is our 17 year old African Violet! It's as old as our daughter, Margaret, and was given as a gift welcoming her into the world. A few years ago we almost lost it. Someone moved it from the north side of the house to the south. There, it lost most of its leaves. Those that were left were completely wilted. As a last resort, I moved it back to the north foyer where remarkably sprung back to life. Amazing...
